The vehicle travelled from Flöha along about a 46 km long, constantly rising line without overhead contact line. After arrival, the current collector was applied to the overhead conductor rail section of the charging station and the accumulators of the vehicle were charged with a charging voltage of AC 15 kV 50 Hz. The interaction between the charging substation and vehicle was tested and optimised on the three following days. The tests confirmed the experience already gained from the measurements in Salzgitter and proved the suitability of the TracFeed® BCS 1550 charging substation with balancing converter, developed and constructed together by RPS and F&S, for charging accumulator-powered traction units originally developed for 16.7 Hz also at 50 Hz.
The installation will be presented to the public at the Digital Rail Convention in Annaberg-Buchholz in September.
